Ethical trading

With an estimated 49.6m victims worldwide, modern slavery is prevalent in the built environment and its supply chains.

At Mathias, we are fully cognisant of our responsibility to manage and mitigate the risk of modern slavery within our supply chain, and our responsibilities under the Modern Slavery Act 2015.

As our business has a turnover of less than £36m, the Act does not require us to publish an annual Modern Slavery Statement. However, as a responsible supplier, we have an extensive framework of Modern Slavery and Ethical Trading processes, and we have voluntarily produced an extensive Modern Slavery Statement, that is available here, and an Ethical Trading Policy that is available here.

As members of the Supply Chain Sustainability School, we have access to a wide range of training and learning resources, and regularly attend workshops on this hugely important issue.

We have also developed an interactive supply chain map, which is hosted on MUMS, our ordering portal. This innovative tool enables our customers to view a global map of where their garments are manufactured, and click a link to view the latest audit report, which highlights any non-conformities and the corrective action plan (if required).

The transparency you have created of your supply chain via the mapping portal is exceptional. It clearly positions Mathias as a supplier that takes sustainability seriously and that is willing to provide good customer transparency. You have produced, on a voluntary basis, a strong modern slavery statement that reflects well on Mathias and shames the efforts of many large corporations.
