Eliminating single-use plastic

Single-use plastic packaging waste remains a huge problem in the PPE & workwear industry.

Although some progress has been made to use recycled and other forms of packaging, a worker in the UK will generate approximately 50 items of single-use plastic packaging waste per year. Consider that most workwear (e.g. polo shirts, trousers) and PPE (safety glasses and gloves) are individually packaged in single-use plastic, and this waste has to go somewhere – usually landfill or in the best case, incineration.

Back in 2018, Mathias & Sons Ltd became the first company in the UK to provide a zero single-use plastic solution for our customers, and the first company in the UK to import workwear without single-use plastic packaging, working in collaboration with our major customers to find an alternative solution to the single use plastic problem.
