Diverse and inclusive range of workwear

The purpose of EDI is to ensure fair treatment and opportunity for all. It aims to eradicate prejudice and discrimination on the basis of an individual or group of individual's protected characteristics.

At Mathias, we recognise and fully support the increasing importance of providing a diverse and inclusive range of workwear and PPE for our customers.

How do we do this?

We partner with suppliers who share this approach, such as Leo Workwear, who have introduced a range of womens hi-vis clothing, including a maternity range and a modesty tunic that has been designed to ensure the wearer is able to adhere to their religious beliefs, whilst staying safe onsite and fully conforming to ISO 20471.

We are able to source workwear and PPE from a vast range of suppliers and brands. This usually means that we are able to provide a full, matching product range for both male and female fit garments, available in all sizes. This is crucially important, and it aligns well with our EDI mission – to ensure fair treatment and opportunity for all, and to eradicate prejudice and discrimination.

As a family business, Mathias are extremely agile to our customers needs, and this can be a huge benefit from an EDI perspective.

The finished gloves

In 2021 we were approached by one of our customers who had an employee who was unable to work due to a hand deformity, and was unable to wear standard gloves. Following a period of consultation with the employee, we hand-made 7 different samples in-house by our highly skilled team of seamstresses. Once the correct fit was found, we made a further 20 pairs.

We then partnered with a specialist supplier who made a cast of the employee’s hand, and a made-to-measure glove was produced to enable an exact fit, whilst maintaining the safety protection of the standard glove.
